There had been chatter about a Nassau County legislator who, in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, moved some listeners at a local Jewish Community Center to tears. Mazi Pilip, an Ethiopian-born Israeli American, recounted how her family members had huddled together in a bomb shelter. She told one sister that she wanted to put on, once more, the uniform of the Israeli military. “I had a hope, a little hope, one day there will be a peace,” she recalled, her voice cracking. “I have so many family members, right now, fighting.”The speech alone most likely did not persuade Republicans to nominate Pilip in the Feb. 13 special election to replace Santos.

On the campaign trail, Mazi Pilip wears a Star of David around her neck. And when it comes to the Israel-Hamas war, Ms. Pilip, the Republican nominee in a special House election in New York, adds no political polish. 7 changed me forever,” she said the other day, her voice cracking, at a vigil for a local man who was taken hostage by Hamas. Ms. Pilip, an Israeli military veteran, called him “my brother.”“The vicious attack of Hamas on my people, on my brothers and sisters, and our Jewish land — a vicious attack — we are never going to forget,” she said, as the packed gymnasium of the suburban Jewish community center nodded along. Many politicians have rushed to stand by American Jews since the war began.

America’s weak.”Neither Casey nor McCormick are likely to face serious opposition in Pennsylvania's April 23 primary before facing off against each other in November's general election. The Biden administration's support for Israel has been complicated politically in other states the president is counting on in his reelection bid. “Israel needs America's firm and unequivocal support,” McCormick wrote. Jewish voters typically vote overwhelmingly Democratic, and Democrats right now are trying to balance their interest in protecting Israel with that of younger voters, who have been sympathetic to Palestinians, he said. “Jewish voters have been one of their most loyal supporter groups.

LARNACA, Cyprus (AP) — Tomer Bassis expected his day to be filled with electronic trance music at the Oct. 7 desert rave party he was attending in southern Israel. The open-air Tribe of Nova music festival is believed to be the worst civilian massacre in Israeli history, with at least 364 dead. In a single day, Hamas and other Palestinian militants killed about 1,200 people in Israel, mostly civilians, and took around 240 people captive. The trips to Cyprus are supported by NovaHelp, a group of mental heath professionals who came together to help survivors of the rave party, said Raskin. Raskin has initiated another, similar project currently underway to bring parents who lost children during the Oct. 7 attack to undergo similar therapy in Cyprus.

A Molotov cocktail was thrown into the entrance of the Jewish Community Council of Montreal just after midnight on Sunday, according to the council. The attack adds to the growing cases of violence in Montreal since the start of the Gaza conflict between Israel and Hamas on Oct. 7. Earlier this month, two Jewish schools in Montreal reported that shots were fired at their entrances. A rise in American Jewish gun ownership would come as a noticeable shift for a group that is historically liberal and a majority of which are registered Democrats. A 2018 American Jewish Committee poll showed 70% of Jewish respondents thought it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect Americans’ rights to own guns. The US government does not keep official statistics on gun ownership, including demographic information. Research from industry groups like the National Shooting Sports Foundation break down gun ownership by race and gender but not by religious affiliation. The spike in violence and hateful rhetoric has evoked fears within the Jewish community of another Holocaust, according to Daniel.

Israel's military chief, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, said lessons would be drawn from the security failures around Gaza that enabled the attack. The U.S. military is placing no conditions on its security assistance to Israel, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said, adding Washington expected Israel's military to "do the right things" in prosecuting its war against Hamas. “We are warning parents to disable social media apps such as Instagram, X and TikTok from their children’s phones,” Rabbi Daniel Nevins, the head of school at Golda Och Academy in West Orange, N.J., wrote to community members Tuesday. “Graphic and misleading information is flowing freely, augmenting the fears of our students.”The Jewish Community Center of Central New Jersey put out similar guidance. “What we’re finding is that people are looking for ways to help, they’re looking for resources,” the center’s executive director, Mike Goldstein, said. Seth Golob, director of the Jackson Religious School and Family Engagement at Sutton Place Synagogue in New York City, told parents that limiting social media “is a tall task, and not one person’s responsibility. However, the stuff coming out is horrific, and all we can do is our part in trying to keep our children safe.”

Several Israeli and Jewish schools are reportedly urging parents to delete social media apps like Instagram, TikTok and X, formerly known as Twitter, from their children's smartphones to prevent them from seeing violent images and videos related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. One Tel Aviv school's parents' association warned of the possibility that Hamas fighters may release graphic videos of hostages "begging for their lives," CNN reported on Tuesday. Several Jewish schools in the U.S. have also issued similar warnings, reported the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, which added that "It was not clear where the information about forthcoming hostage videos was coming from." The principal of The Frisch School in Paramus, New Jersey, reportedly sent an email to parents urging them to tell their kids to delete Instagram and TikTok "immediately." "Please remove the @TikTok and @instagram apps from your children's mobile phones," the message said.

Police arrested one person during the raids in the San Isidro district, located in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. After the war, many Nazi officials including death camp supervisor Adolf Eichmann also emigrated to Argentina to avoid trials for war crimes. PinnedThe massacre of 11 worshipers at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018 is considered the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history. “Finally, justice has been served,” said Leigh Stein, whose father, Dan Stein, was killed in the attack. Image Relatives of the victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue mass shooting spoke on Wednesday after jurors recommended that the gunman be sentenced to death. The defense called no witnesses in that part of the trial, as there was never any dispute that Mr. Bowers had carried out the attack. The police rushed to the synagogue and, after exchanging gunfire with Mr. Bowers, eventually cornered him in a classroom.

Political scientist Barbara Walter said unregulated social media is increasing the threat of a civil war. "Let people put whatever they want on social media," Walter said in an interview on Wednesday. And my answer is always the same: regulate social media," Walter said. Russia's Vladimir Putin, through his intelligence services and state-run media properties, has also used social media to pursue his own anti-democratic agenda. "Let people put whatever they want on social media," Walter said.
